#852 Discussion features

The forums are great. I like how you tied Fandoc syntax to them. Smart move.

However there are two features I miss:

  1. Being able to edit without leaving the initial thread. As it is now when I edit the thread (most likely if someone replied before I posted my reply) I switch to a new view-space, so I can't see other thread posts while editing. It doesn't help that I have attention span of caffeine infused chipmunk.
  2. The addition of polls would be great, so we could vote on important matter instead of writing +1. Currently there wouldn't be much point, so this is feature I'd like to see in a (not so far) future.

1. Being able to edit without leaving the initial thread

Yeah, that would be nice. Would be a bit of work to make that happen, so no promises on a timeline there. Opening the Edit link in a new tab is a work-around for now.

2. The addition of polls would be great so we could vote

I'm not sure it would be all that useful for the current use cases. The threads are typically small, and the context/support of your vote is usually important. However, the original design of Sidewalk called for voting on Tickets (a la Java Bug Parade). That will most likely make it in as some point. But there is definitely some overlap between those two things, so I'd have to give that some thought.

Also has to be mentioned that a "Forgot your login" feature would be nice. I know I have two user accounts because I couldn't remember my first from a while back. Didn't mention this because frankly, I would prefer the time to be spent on Fantom itself! :D
